What Is Domain Privacy Protection?
Domain privacy or WhoIs protection (different registrars sometimes refer to it by different names) hides the domain registrant’s personal information from the public WhoIs database.
WhoIs is an organization that manages all data regarding domain registration.
How Do You Make Your Domain Private?
You should do this when you buy a new domain.
When you do this, you have the option to either purchase one for a a price up to $15 per year, or some domain registrars give it away for free.
Why Domain Privacy
It costs money and this may be an item that you are trying to shave off some costs…
But maybe you shouldn’t be frugal on this one.
Why is domain privacy important?
I purchased hosting and registered a domain for my new site 4 days ago.
I usually get my domains from NameSilo, where I get an $8.99 .com domain free privacy for life.
But this time I took a Black Friday offer on hosting.
Even when it is not Black Friday, Hostinger has a cheap cloud hosting/free domain/free SSL offer.
I paid $85 for two years of cloud hosting, got the SSL and the domain for free, but I opted not to get the domain privacy for an additional $2.50.I wanted to make an experiment, my email account already has tons of spam, so it wouldn’t make too much difference.
I knew what I was getting myself into, but what I got surprised even me. A bunch of poorly formatted, typo-infested spam.
This is in 4 days (I am going to copy and paste all the spam emails so that you really understand what I mean):

Why Pay For Domain Privacy When You Can Get It For Free?
All this may change with the new EU data protection laws going into effect in 2018.
But in the meantime, there are domain registrar companies that give you free domain privacy for a year or even for life.
